Prayer and Liturgy

Catholic Life

Christ the Word is a Catholic school, rooted in the teachings, rituals and ethos of the Church. Whilst being Catholic, we welcome and nurture pupils of all faiths and backgrounds. The Governors and staff at Christ the Word Catholic School are committed to building and strengthening the Catholic ethos of the school, developing every individual and allow them to grow in God’s spirit.

Prayer and Liturgy

As a school community, prayer and liturgy play a key role in our daily life.  In Upper school, learners have the opportunity to participate in prayer during form time, whilst it is built into the daily routines in Lower school.

Every class participates in an act of Celebration of the Word on a daily basis.  This includes time for prayer, quiet reflection and readings from the Bible.

Lower school learners gather for a weekly Celebration of the Word involving a variety of prayers, music/singing, readings and reflections.  Upper school learners attend year group Celebration of the Word assemblies on a fortnightly basis. Our Celebrations follow the Church’s liturgical calendar.

We work closely with the Diocese to hold regular school Mass celebrations, marking major liturgical events.  Our Parish Priest, Father Anthony and Bishop Peter are closely involved with the school celebrations.
