Course content

The course covers two main areas over the two years of GCSE. The first component Cognition and Behaviour deals with memory, perception, neuro development and finally looking at research methods. Year two covers Component 2 which deals with Social Contexts and Behaviour. Teaching will  cover social influence, language, thought and communication, the brain, neuropsychology and psychological problems.

How you will be learn

Most learning will be in the classroom using a range of teaching strategies including direct teaching, independent learning, research, peer teaching. Off site visits and visits from psychology practitioners.

How you will be assessed

Component 1, what’s assessed? Memory, Perception, Development and Research Methods.
Component 1, how it’s assessed – 1 hour 45 minute written exam (50% of overall GCSE)
Component 2, what’s assessed? Social influence, language, thought and communication, brain and neuropsychology, psychological problems.
Component 2, how it’s assessed – 1 hour 45 minute written exam (50% of overall GCSE)

Additional information and skills

Throughout the course learners will be expected understand a range of research methods, demonstrating mathematical elements including graphs, comparing variables, percentages, primary and secondary date. Learners will also be expected to be able to read and annotate a range of different texts.

Careers

A range of jobs can be accessed by having qualifications in Psychology including clinical psychology, counselling, child (educational) psychology, forensic psychology.
